Thursday, June 15 Today was a busy day and complete success!
Ecuador played his second game of the World Cup football at 8am and there was no question as to work during a match as important as this one (nor for Ecuadorians or in Quebec) we decided to prepare a lunch at the Quebec UPOCAM to enjoy listening to the game. On the menu: pancakes and French toast with maple syrup and nutella and fruit salad.
People's UPOCAM made it big in projecting the game on a giant screen. On our side we have done rather well under the circumstances. Make pancakes for 30 people without the whip, without tip and with 2 stoves that are more like bowls than stoves, it is an achievement.
But the real achievement is the team from Ecuador who has accomplished, winning a second game so that nobody here thought she would win one. Historic victory that ensures the team go to the second round for the first time in their history. The atmosphere at UPOCAM and the street was extraordinary. A great moment lived intensely, even by those who resented not necessarily football. I revienderai soon with photos.
But finally the most intense moment of the day was the sacar caña, which could result in "out of the bamboo forest". We went to help a farmer (the "adoptive father" of Amelia) out of wood (bamboo) that he had cut on his land. Obviously nothing is mechanized and everything is done by hand. Ow! Ow! Ow! What a job! We understand why Quebec is the preferred technique "clearcut". Out of 4 meters of bamboo can be very heavy with a dense forest and hilly, it is work very, very, very difficult.
We were 15 to work for about 4 hours and we barely pulled out a fifty "logs". Here is the fruit of our "harvest"
